Over the past couple of months, I’ve been working on this project—not because anyone asked me to, but because it felt personal. I didn’t realize just how personal it would become. Marginalized individuals are often dehumanized and pushed to the edges of society, overshadowing the deeply personal and emotional narratives behind each individual. Through a combination of personal stories and hard facts, this project seeks to challenge the stigma surrounding marginalized individuals and highlight the systemic barriers that make stability so difficult to achieve.
Since February, I’ve met, connected with, and made friends with many people in the OKC homeless community. I’ve worked alongside an organization called Feed His Sheep to simply pass out lunches to these friends—and every time, I hear something. Something that breaks my heart and builds it back stronger. Something that reminds me of what really matters. Something that puts my own worries into perspective. Something that sounds like hope, even when things feel hopeless. Something that sticks with me long after I leave.
I hope this project sticks with you as well.
